Montgomery Street (Oakridge) New Single Family Home with Laneway Home
This contemporary house with laneway house allows the homeowners, their teens, and their aging parents to stay connected while living independently.
Simple, clean and linear, the house exterior features a flat overhanging roof with heavy metal fascia, Swiss Pearl wall panelling, a high-end aluminum curtain wall system, stucco and hardi-plank siding. A shared landscaped courtyard ties together the living spaces of the main house and spacious laneway house.
Inside the entry hall, a raised roof with clerestory windows floods the main floor with light. Interconnected spaces and clean lines reflect the exterior design, while large sliding doors in the family room open to an elevated covered patio, which steps down to the shared courtyard.
The main house front entry subtly incorporates an accessible ramp into the landscaping — a mass of low planting which, when in bloom, forms a beautiful watercolour.
A charcoal slate-clad wall, which supports the staircase, grounds the home’s white walls and light oak floors.
Clean, modern materials used throughout the interior include a 22’ concrete ledge that begins in the entry hall as a bench, becomes extra seating in the living room and, finally, forms the fireplace hearth.
